The Honeymoon (Part 1 of Many)

This is the first of what I suspect will be multiple posts about our amazing honeymoon. This particular story is all about the travels TO Hawaii.

So Juan (and Meredith by force/virtue of staying with Juan) were kind enough to pick us up at 3:30 in the morning to take us to the airport for our 7:10 AM first-class flight. The plan was to fly first class on Delta from Indy to Atlanta, then Atlanta to Honolulu. We then picked up a coach flight on Hawaiian Airlines from Honolulu to Maui. So we arrive at the airport, check our bags directly to Maui (which Delta could do because of their affiliation with Hawaiian Air), are handing our boarding passes and told that we will be assigned our seats at the gate... Danger Will Robinson! Danger!

So we arrive at our gate and I go the desk to find out what our situation is. The kind lady behind the desk tells us "The plane from Indy to Atlanta was changed to a smaller plane and as a result, there aren't enough first class seats on this plane. We've already gone ahead and booked you on an American Airlines flight in first class from Indianapolis to Phoenix to Honolulu that puts you in Honolulu 30 minutes after your original Delta flight was due to arrive (which wouldn't have been a problem for our connection to Maui)." As I'm being told this, I see Arwynn's pink (I know, *shocker*) bag traveling up the ramp onto the Delta plane.

I tell the woman to hold on while I consult with my lovely new wife (making it clear to her that this is our honeymoon). Knowing fully that she won't want to be separated from the luggage, I'm partly pondering what other options we have. After explaining the situation to my wife, I ask the woman behind the desk, "can we drop back to coach for the Indy to Atlanta leg and still keep our first class leg from Atlanta to Honolulu?" *click click click* "Sure, we can do that. We can even put you in a bulkhead row so you have the extra legroom.... And for your troubles, we'll give you each a $400 voucher... and 3 free drink coupons each..." So you mean the only thing we're giving up are "unlimited" drinks at 7:10 AM on our 90 minute flight and the ability to lean our chair back quite as far? and in exchange for that, you'll give us $800 and 6 drinks? Ummm..... Sure! :)

So we get on our plane, find our coach seats directly behind first class, planning to take a brief snooze all the way to Atlanta... when the flight attendant brings over a mini-bottle of champagne and two tiny flutes. "I heard it was your honeymoon and I thought I would bring you a little something to say congratulations!" Wait a minute, so you mean we still get a drink... I'm still not sure what we gave up on this flight.

All in all, Delta gets an A+++ for their customer service!

Our First Blog

Well it seems like everyone is blogging these days, and I've been thinking of a way to keep track of our crazy lives. So I thought we'd give this a try! We just got back from our honeymoon yesterday, and I'm worried I've already forgotten something, so we better get crackin'. Thanks for stopping by!
